Family Support
news.gif (6911 bytes)

Family support begins with the premise that all families, regardless of income or ethnic background, need support to best nurture their children's intellectual, physical, social, and emotional development.  Family support programs are designed to help children by working with families to prevent problems with a focus on family and community strengths.

By blending and leveraging existing resources and providing funding through Smart Start - the following programs are made possible to the young children and their families:

Parents As Teachers:  Encourages parents to take an active role in their children's development and education.  This program provides home visits, group meetings, screenings, and referral networks.

In-Home Breastfeeding Support:  Provides information, encouragement and support to women who are interested in breastfeeding.

Project Family Read:  Provides a one-semester parenting and early childhood education, family support, parent-child relations, and tutoring for families.

Adolescent Parenting Program:  Provides intensive, family centered services to pregnant and parenting adolescents.

Mi Centro:  Provides a six-week program to assist Spanish-speaking children and their families in making the transition to the school system or childcare.
